    • can good fren of Nair tell him dunt depend too much on the vague freedom and

      democracy of USA!!

There are too many things that AGC can do ,shall do and most probably

will do,thanks to the road paved by Nair himself after landing

in USA!!I already told u in this thread and other threads that Nair will

point his middle figure to SG once he lands in USA.

      @@@@@@@@@@@@@

I dunt want AGC waste their time to deal with this guy.

But he just challenges SG laws too much.He gave ammo to AGC to fire

to him. What to do?I think he and his many learned frens can read much

better than me on laws,SG and USA~!~!

Strait Times seems learn a lesson from Kangaroo Trio case.

The trio blamed STimes publise the kangaroo image!!

In today report about Nair retracting apolgies,STimes dared not

quote what Nair posted in his blog:

      Nair retracts apology
      Straits Times - 03 dec 2008
By Zakir Hussain FORMER Singaporean lawyer Gopalan Nair, now back home in the United States, has retracted apologies and statements he made in court here ...

'The only reason for my apology was a desire to get out of prison as soon as possible,' said Mr Gopalan Nair. -- ST PHOTO: SHAHRIYA YAHAYA

Will u be seeing him in SG soon?

The ball is now in AGC's court!!

      @@@@@@@@@@@@@@

      They are reading his blogs!!

On the two postings he agreed to remove, and which he did delete from his blog, he 'will be re-posting those two blog posts and stand by every word that I had written in them'.

He has yet to re-post them, a check last night showed.

Asked for comments on these developments, a spokesman for the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) said it is 'currently looking into the matter'.

Mr Nair came to Singapore in May to attend a hearing to assess damages in a defamation suit that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew won against the Singapore Democratic Party, its chief Chee Soon Juan and his sister Chee Siok Chin.

    • Tan hinted the topics in coming Sat!!

i have said about Chee Soon Juan--you are what you post.

Shall You need to endorse every single word or letter or figure

appearing in your posts, even u paste others' writing?

I think u need to .Readers would think that u agree the content of what

u copy and paste or people send to you then u paste on your posts.

This apply to a famous and learned person like Mr Tan.

      @@@@@@@@

Tan posted a old report sent by a guy .The report quoted David

Marshal earned $8000 pm when he was CM.

We put aside how much David Marshal really earned when

he was Chief Minister from  1955 to 1956.Some said it may

      be a typo.

Does Tan know what was the purchase power of $8000 pm

      in 1955 and 1956?

I remember the earlies HDB 3 room flat costed few thousand .

In the comments of Tan's post, one said:

      http://tankinlian.blogspot.com/2008/12/david-marshall-in-1994.html

      A Tan said...

He earned $8,000 a month in the mid 1950s.

A bungalow hse in Frankel Estate (Siglap area) was abt S$30,000 (high side).

So he could buy 3.2 hses there on a yearly salary.

Say a minister today gets S$2 mill. He can buy maybe one hse in same area in one yr.

      3:44 PM

I think a unskilled worker then earned below $50pm.

Let say Marshal one year salary can earn 2 houses only.

This was a big sum in 1956.

      @@@@@@@@@@@@

Now we turn to Tan who may be too busy to think before he posted this.

Or he may be hinting his topics in the coming Saturday.

He likes mentioning hot topic of ministers pay recently!!

This borrowed post is just a prelude.

He alreday fired at ministers pay  in Oct:

      http://tankinlian.blogspot.com/2008/10/lost-sense-of-bonding-and-togetherness.html

      now he posted again--

Lost the sense of bonding and togetherness

      @@@@@@@@

Mr Tan,$8000 pm was not a peanut in mid 1950's!!Do u think so?

1.USA dared not take the challenge from LKY to let

internationl committee investigate the case. What a coward!

Moving to quiet the dispute that followed the American diplomat's expulsion last month, Mr. Lee proposed to Parliament that an international committee investigate the case.

Mr. Lee emphasized that he considered the United States an important friend, but also said that American officials needed to understand Singapore's political realities.

The Prime Minister said the American diplomat's meetings with the opposition had been taken as an affront by the younger leaders of his ruling People's Action Party.

      Convicted: Gopalan Nair Speaker's Corner

This case, which I shall call the disorderly case, took 18 days of trial in court. I defended myself. After all I am a lawyer. So if I have been fined $3,000.00, you may say that I got my money's worth. I have made the court and the Singapore Attorney General to work very hard for 18 days of court time. In return the fine I have to pay them is only $3,000.00. If you look at from a financial standpoint, you could say that I have ripped them off. What, for 18 days of court time, they get only $3,000.00!

The book is Seow's story and some of the "facts" have been disputed by the Singapore government (e.g., in a letter from the Singapore ambassador, S. R. Nathan, in the Wall Street Journal, February 8, 1995). Even if it leaves a number of unanswered questions, the book offers rare insight into political life on a small island where the political leadership apparently find time to concern themselves with the private lives of the citizenry.

However, in a Singapore District Court hearing in February where Mr Seow was

Up to 10,000 jobs could go in the next 12 to 18 months if the big banks restructure their workforces, the Finance Sector Union (FSU) says.

FSU national secretary Leon Carter said speculation that ANZ Bank planned to cut up to 3500 of its staff in the lead-up to Christmas could trigger mass sackings at the other big banks.

Already there is speculation that Westpac will shed 5000 jobs when it merges with St George.

"We think that 10,000 jobs could disappear out of the banking sector over the next 12 to 18 months," Mr Carter told reporters in Melbourne today.

many are interested in oz prices and properties'

If the cuts passed through to mortgages, standard variable rates would hit 5 per cent, a level not seen since 1964, when they were fixed at that level under the Coalition government of Robert Menzies.

The Melbourne Institute-TD Securities inflation gauge is negative for a second successive month, suggesting prices will fall in the December quarter, paving the way for Australia’s first sustained run of deflation in more than half a century.

Rates on track for 44-year low

one of major national banks will cut 10% staff:

ANZ tipped to make heavy job cuts

HUNDREDS, and possibly thousands, of jobs will go from the ANZ within weeks as the bank aggressively reduces costs in the face of the economic slowdown and credit crisis.

A well-placed source who is aware of ANZ's plans said it would axe 3000-3500 staff and contractors — 10% of its workforce.

The redundancies will occur at least two weeks before Christmas to avoid more bad publicity. "They are moving through the entire organisation," the source said. "They are trying to take as much cost pressure out as they can."

For comparsion ,DBS cut 6 %.

The Government has always adopted a measured and cautious approach to Chia Thye Poh's case. Chia was moved from a prison to a home environment of government half-way houses in 1982, when he was still under detention.

In 1989 Chia was released from detention and placed in Restriction Orders (RO) to reside in Sentosa Island, where he was allowed to move freely and receive visitors.

In 1990 and 1992 this was further relaxed to allow Chia to visit Singapore mainland daily, and subsequently to reside on Singapore mainland.

Since 1992, Chia's RO has been renewed with progressively fewer restrictive conditions.

This allowed Chia in Aug 97 to go to Hamburg on a 1-year Hamburg Foundation Scholarship.

For the half--way house,i dunt have the details.Do u have any?

i assume it was Day out,Night in institution.

      2.For sentosa,can i call Island Arrest?

It was much better than prison cell and half--way house.

In Sentosa,he worked as Assiatant Curator

for Sentosa Development Corp, getting a starting salary of $900.

I assume during the 9 years period,

Chia could move around during day time.

I think he needed to go back to designated residence at designated time.

i call it curfew, rather than house arrest.

      Under house arrest,u cant go out.Dunt u?
