Hai... compare to Malaysia is not apple to apple. Just compare to Singapore and US of Singapore and HK and do so on a cost per unit of energy consumption. I think Singapore is still more expensive.

We monitor. Same amount of usage but the tarriff kept increasing even when oil per barrel is so low. In the beginning of the year, the bills is about $100, and just after all that quarterly increase, at the same level of usage, the bills has gone up to $140. Last year the bill hover around 87 -100. Usage has been consistent for the 2 years.
All in all from last year end to current times, there is about a $50 increase for the bills on average with no change in consumption. For us, that's about 50% increase altogether

Sometimes the PRC chinese has a different name for the same thing. So even if we speak local Chinese to these Ah Tiong. its not good enough. Its not the Chinese the Ah Tiong understand.

as long as there is people, there will be violence. Regardless of race. Lots of things are not publicized ... does not mean they don't happen. So you talk about the case of the British father who raped his 2 daughters fathering 9 kids and making them pregnant 19 times to get child support. Or that Austrian guy who held his daughter captive for 24 years and father 7 kids. There's also a group in Texas who does almost the same thing. There's lost of things out there in the western world ... you do not know of. So don't be too quick to think Asians are bad.

I am totally conversant in Chinese or English, but I do not agree with the expectation that if I am Chinese, therefore, to remeber my "root" I have to know chinese. Or that these ah Tiong like to insult us that we should be "adhereing" to them instead of them adapting themselves to the environment here. Its a fact that these Ah Tiong are insensitive to our environment that we have a multi-racial society that speaking and only taking service in Chinese can be viewed as lacking. Knowing chinese has nothing to do with any "roots". Looking like a chinese does not mean we automatically know chinese. Its their inability to adapt and meet at a compromise, not our inability to adjust to their need that is causing the strain.
In simple english, they are coming to a muti-racial/multi-cultural country to work and yet they are asking us to bend over backwards for them? Then next time if i hire a maid, my maid will have to tell me to learn bahasa Indonesia first before she will work, and until them she will sit around and order me to work? Did they get their working attitude right in the first place?

Looks like more pay raise next time for a job well done.

Yeah, he can just sit and do nothing and the economy will just recover. He can claim its his credit if it makes him feel good. The hard part to swallow is when he start increasing monies collection with whatever "noble" reason, increasing inflation/cost of living, increasing their own salary in the name of "doing" a good job "running the country" and trasfering costs of bad decisions to the people. ...

Convincing people that Signapore isn't part of China is harder than ever now.

So if based on marketing data, maybe they are getting so much more ah tiong customers, its so much easier to side line the local customers into minority. After all Ah tiong customers can speak chinese and will gladly buy from ah tiong service staff. Why worry about a couple of complaining local customer who don't make up much of the sales.
